Eddie Monsoon arrived in London in the early 1980′s – lured by the bright lights, music, and fashion that had influenced his youth.

His professional photography career started when he began working with Mark Lebon, famed avant-garde photographer and film-maker and member of the Buffalo movement: a style tribe and fashion discipline spearheaded by the revered stylist Ray Petri. Monsoon found himself in the centre of a major fashion movement, working with some of Britain’s top creative talent including the legendary stylist Judy Blame.

Monsoon began contributing to the emerging style magazines of the time such as i-D, The Face, Blitz and Arena and continued to make contributions to many more leading fashion and lifestyle publications from around the world throughout the 1990′s.

Monsoons deep interest in portraiture and the individual lead him to work with some of Worlds leading music artists, creating some of the most iconic and striking images of this period. He has collaborated with artists such as Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry, Boy George, Soul II Soul, Jay Kay, The Verve, Richard Ashcroft, Leftfield and Ninja Tunes among others.

The year 2000 was a turning point for Monsoon; always searching for inspiration and a new point of view, he decided to explore the world with his cameras – spending time in the United States via the Caribbean, Japan, Australia, and France before settling back in the place where it all started: London, England. During the past decade he has lent his photographic style to many different projects ranging from reportage to commercial fashion while continually recording his surroundings along the way.

His first exhibition, in Tokyo, 2001, visually documented the career of recording artists Massive Attack spanning 15 years. Tokyo was again the venue for his 2006 exhibition, showing 50 of his favourite images from his archives. Monsoon’s work has appeared in several books documenting the 1980′s and 1990′s including I-Ds ‘Fashion Now’, and ‘Soul I-D’, and Phaidons ‘Sample: 100 Fashion Designers’.

Eddie Monsoon is currently working on a book-based retrospective of his work, a project about the people in and around the Cannes Film Festival, along with various commercial projects.
